On site tests

Plate load tests  

On-site plate load tests are used to determine the degree of compaction of a subsoil, replenishment, sub-foundation or foundation consisting of soil, sand or rubble. The purpose of a plate load test is to measure the subsidence of a centrically loaded, rigid plate.    

Core drillings  

Core drillings can be executed into different materials, the most common ones being concrete (whether or not reinforced)), asphalt and sand cement. The resulting cylindrical test pieces are then subjected to the specifically required laboratory tests.  

Impact sounding  

Impact sounding or light impact sounding allows for a qualitative assessment of the natural resistance of the soil stratums and can also be used to check the compaction (CBR value).

Sand cement  

Sand cement is, obviously, a mixture of sand and cement that is used for the foundation and encasing of newly installed sewage systems or as bedding for paving bricks.  

The quality of the mixture is checked by performing a compaction test on Proctor sand cement. The latter are cylindrical test pieces made on site in stainless steel moulds.   

Tensile tests  

To inspect the adhesive strength of a newly applied layer onto an existing construction, tensile tests can be performed.    

Some practical examples:

  • A continuous flow or pump pit, the walls of which have been coated with incaline (concrete protection product)
  • An existing wall or engineering structure onto which concrete has been sprayed
  • A floor onto which an epoxy coating has been applied.

Stability study – Renovation  

Before a building can be renovated, some essential issues concerning its stability must be examined. GEO Measuring & Analysis nv offers you the optimal solution for this.  

After a thorough visual inspection of the building, the following typical tests are executed:

  • Drilling of cores in concrete, brickwork or asphalt structures with a manual core drilling machine
  • Measuring of carbonation depth on concrete cores
  • Measuring of coating of reinforcement
  • Description of drilled cores
  • Establishing the location and diameter of the reinforcement
  • Establishing the compression strength of drilled cores
  • Establishing the chloride content within the concrete
  • Establishing the PAH content within asphalt cores
  • Identification of asbestos in insulation layers
  • Indicative and non-destructive measuring of the strength of concrete using a sclerometer
